Our Mission

The NY Dog Film Festival™ is a philanthropic celebration of the love between dogs and their people, offering dog lovers a shared audience experience of canine-themed films from around the world that inspire, educate and entertain about the human-canine bond. With a New York City premiere every fall, the Festival then travels around the country, supporting local animal welfare groups which bring people and pets together, along with our national partner and beneficiary, Dogs Playing for Life.

Dogs Playing for Life™

Every dog, Every day.”

We support this innovative non-profit that has gone to hundreds of shelters nationwide and shown eager staff and volunteers how to get thousands of dogs into playgroups as a new part of their daily schedule. In many shelters some dogs had not been out of their cages for weeks or months, but once allowed to play freely in groups they become happier, healthier and more adoptable.

Our Non-profit Beneficiaries

In every location where the New York Dog Film Festival™ travels there will be a shelter or rescue partner in the community that will be the beneficiary and share in the proceeds of ticket sales. Those non-profit organizations will be honored as part of the festivities and will have the opportunity for education and outreach about adoption, as well as bringing adoptable dogs to the theater at each destination.

The NY Dog Film Festival 2016-17 is Dedicated to the Memory of Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers Dog Film Festival Dedication

Joan Rivers was Tracie’s god mother and the quintessential dog lover, who appreciated her rescued dogs as her most constant companions. She went out of her way to find dogs for adoption and embraced them unconditionally, whatever their quirks. No matter where Joan was or how busy, her dogs’ health and happiness were always foremost in her mind. She was a role model to Tracie in many ways in life, not the least of which was her devotion to her canine companions.
